‘Unique’ Mackay invention to roll onto worksites
A UNIQUE dual-purpose truck will be rolling out of a Paget workplace and onto worksites around the region.
StemSafe has designed the first type of aggregate stemming trucks, which can also be used as water trucks.
"There's nothing new about aggregate stemming trucks, and there's nothing new about water trucks. But, putting them together is unique," business development manager Andrew Wheeler said.
Mr Wheeler said industries had been slow to adopt the new technology, with only three orders to date despite it being available for many years.
"It takes the industry a long time to pull something on if (the design) is just on paper," he said.
But, Mr Wheeler said the new trucks could be revolutionary on both mining and civil engineering worksites.
When the trucks were not stemming or backfilling blast patterns, they could be used as water trucks, he said.
This would effectively double the capability of the equipment, reduce standby time and provide contingency for major equipment breakdown, Mr Wheeler said.
The dual-purpose trucks incorporate rear-mounted water sprays to suppress mine site dust, he said.
"(This) significantly reduces ambient respirable dust concentrations in the workplace," he said.
"The trucks also include a water cannon, which is fitted for wash down of equipment or misfire treatment, and high-volume water pump for filling of drill water injection tanks.
"We can also build customised and site compliant equipment to suit any mine site application and or specification."
