V8 Supercars could soon be racing in Toowoomba

A MAJOR new motorsport complex in Toowoomba could soon be a reality after the V8 Supercars organisation threw its support behind the proposal.

V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said a memorandum of understanding had been signed with developers of the new complex.

The Toowoomba facility is one of four new permanent circuit projects supported by Australia's major motorsports organisation.

It is understood the new circuit would be based at Wellcamp near Wagners' new Wellcamp Airport and the proposed Toowoomba Second Range Crossing corridor.

V8 Supercars will not have direct financial involvement in the project, according to reports on speedcafe.com yesterday.

The organisation will assist with resources to help establish the permanent circuit.

Mayor Paul Antonio declined to comment on the motorsport complex because it is a private development.

The announcement on The Chronicle's Facebook site has generated significant interest, with more than 500 people supporting the proposal.
