Vandals way off the mark

WELCOME to Vegas or Emerald?

Graffiti vandals have been busy renaming the town. Street signs, trees and any other stationary objects in the Roberts St vicinity were targeted with the unusual tag.

Acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Terry McCullough said he was disappointed to see this sort of behaviour occurring in Emerald.

"That sort of behaviour is common in bigger cities, you don't expect it in a country town," he said.

"People seem to have more pride in a country town."

This incident comes after the Emerald State High School reported damage sometime between Friday and Monday last weekend.

Police were still investigating after they received a report a classroom window was smashed by a large paver and three Colorbond fence panels were kicked in.

Sgt McCullough urged anyone with information regarding either incident to contact the Emerald police station on 4983 8100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.

"If you see anybody engaging in that type of activity please contact local police immediately," he said.

"Offenders will be charged with wilful damage because it is a criminal offence, resulting in a criminal record which could impact on future employment and overseas travel."
