Vehicle struck and killed pedestrian in Cairns this morning

POLICE are investigating after a pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle at Cairns this morning.

Initial investigations indicate the woman was walking along Airport Avenue around 5.20am when she was struck.

The woman was taken to Cairns Base Hospital but later died.

One lane was closed whilst investigations were conducted at the scene but has since reopened.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating
