MELBOURNE Victory stalwart Leigh Broxham expects Video Assistant Referee "teething problems” but has backed the new system which makes its A-League debut this weekend.

Victory travels to ANZ Stadium on Saturday night to face in-form Western Sydney in a fixture that's never short of controversial calls, with Kevin Muscat's visitors desperate to atone for last week's woeful home display.

A-League referees chief Ben Wilson has presented a VAR demonstration to all players and clubs and Broxham said the key was that it wouldn't stop the flow of the game.

"It's another platform to help them make the right decisions, it can only be a good thing,” Broxham said.

"The way they've approached it the game still flows, so we're not stopping a game for five minutes looking at things. A lot will go on in the background that we won't know about.

"It's hard, we are pretty critical on referees but sometimes things happen very quickly and they're only human.

"It'll still have some teething problems to begin with, they're still practising as well, but everyone's got to have an open mind.”

Broxham, who could again shift positions with defenders Alan Baro and Jason Geria suspended, warned the Wanderers were in ominous form.

"Western Sydney is a very good challenge, we've had good results against them in the past but they have good players and are in good form,” he said.

"[Brendon] Santalab's scoring for them now as well and I think the results they're getting now are the results they might have deserved earlier on.”
