VIDEO: Stranded great white shark rescued by beachgoers
A TWO-METRE great white shark which was stranded on a US beach has been returned to the wild thanks to beachgoers who kept it wet until rescuers arrived.
The shark was stranded at Massachusetts' Cape Cod peninsula near South Beach as the tide went out.
Locals and tourists kept the shark wet by splashing it with buckets of water until officials attached a line to its rear fin and pulled it back into open waters.
The rescue took about an hour.
About 40 people were crowded around the shark when he arrived and it appeared dead.
The drama was captured on video by and uploaded to YouTube by Mike Bartel. Its already attracted more than 400,000 views.
