WATCH: Cyclone power outage traps women in elevator

TWO WOMEN have had to be freed from an elevator after the power went out as they travelled between floors in their Yeppoon hotel.

As winds from Cyclone Marcia screamed outside, journalists and neighbours swung in to help the pair, one of whom was reportedly the hotel's night manager.

Armed with a hodge-podge of tools including a car jack, shove and elbow grease, the two were eventually set free from their metallic prison.

The two women had been stuck in the life for close to an hour.

AAP journalist Nathan Paull and Ten News' Kristina Costalos each caught the unfolding drama on their phone and posted the saga on Twitter.
