WATCH: Residents chill with whale shark off the Whitsundays

A VIDEO of a whale shark swimming close to a boat off the Whitsundays has already received more than 6000 views on social media.

The video posted by Debbie and Kevin Smith showed the whale shark swimming around the vessel.

"Kevin and I had the ultimate experience today on the boat, I have to say we live in the best place in the world the Whitsundays," Debbie said.

"I have always dreamed of seeing a whale shark and today not only did we see one we got to touch him too!

"He hung around us for at least 20 minutes and I am still in awe with a big grin on my face."
