Want to lose 40kg? Just eat 12kg of fish daily

GROUCHO the seal is the biggest loser at UnderWater World Sea Life in Mooloolaba after shedding more than 40kg in four months.

Seals generally stack on the most weight during June, July and August, not only to keep warm but to prepare them for breeding season in the spring.

Despite the loss, the Australian fur seal is still the largest male seal at the aquarium, weighing in at 200kg.

He was 240kg back in September.

Mammal manager Mark Ryan said seals naturally experienced physical and behavioural changes to prepare for breeding.

But it's always exciting to see how much the remark able animal can transform in a short time.

Groucho facts

When losing weight, Grouch eats only 12kgs of fish a day.

When cultivating mass, he can eat as much as 25kgs of fish a day.
