Weitering may get job on Franklin

IT’S the match-up the footy world wants, but Carlton coach Brendon Bolton was down playing the prospect of his young charge Jacob Weitering manning Sydney star Lance Franklin at the SCG.

The 2015 No.1 draft pick is 10 years Franklin’s junior but the key backman has held up well when given the big jobs in his debut season.

"There’ll be times when he does (play on Franklin) because we play collective defence," Bolton said.

Weitering may also spend time in attack after booting two goals in the narrow loss to West Coast last week, though spearhead Levi Casboult does return after his one-match ban.

The potential Weitering-Franklin duel would be one of the more interesting aspects to what could be a lop-sided contest, with the visiting Blues (6-10) rank outsiders against a Sydney side (11-5) looking to make it seven wins in a row against them.

The Swans will be without co-captain Jarrad McVeigh (groin).
