What's on the small screen this week

YOUR small screen offerings are slowing down a bit this week during the school holidays and Easter long weekend, but there are still a few new shows making their debuts.

First Dates returns to Seven and Nine premieres the new wildlife series Spy in the Wild.

The ABC has two new offerings: season two of Anh Do's hit interview series Brush With Fame and the new Aussie drama Seven Types of Ambiguity.

Here are this week's highlights of the small screen and why you should watch them:

Sunday April 9: Spy in the Wild, Nine, 8pm

THIS documentary series uses animatronic spy creatures to infiltrate the animal world to explore their complex emotions. David Tennant narrates.

Why you should watch: From the love and devotion of an elephant family to dancing birds of paradise and flirting polar bears, this week's episode explores animal emotion in all its forms.

Monday April 10: First Dates, Seven, 7.30pm

Real people go on blind dates in a restaurant with a unique twist: discreet cameras follow every move. At the end of the night, they must decide if they'll go on a second date.

Why you should watch: This show's full of awkward, cringe-worthy moments that make for entertaining viewing. Tonight there's serial dater Stephanie, who has a secret crush on Malcom Turnbull, and Sanjay, considers himself 'a catch' and rates himself a 9.5 out of 10.

Tuesday April 11: Better Call Saul, Stan

As season three begins, the repercussions of Chuck's scheme test Jimmy and Kim's fledgling law practices - and their romance - as never before. This imminent existential threat presses Jimmy's faltering moral compass to the limit.

Why you should watch: This Breaking Bad spin-off is a great show in its own right, and apparently viewers will finally get to see Jimmy called 'Saul' this season. Plus, there will be further nods to the BB universe including the return of Gus Fring.

Wednesday April 12: Anh's Brush With Fame, ABC, 8pm

Comedian, author and artist Anh Do returns with a second instalment of the hugely popular series Anh's Brush With Fame, getting up close and personal with a whole new line-up of Australian celebrities to paint their portrait.

Why you should watch: Anh always manages to get new and unique stories out of his subjects as they pose for their portraits, and Jessica Mauboy should be an interesting chat to kick off season two.

Thursday April 13: Seven Types of Ambiguity, ABC, 8.30pm

Why you should watch: Host Amanda Keller is sure to have some cheeky fun with her new boy toy on Ten's award-winning lifestyle show.

Richard Ayoade is joined by fellow comedian Adam Hills on a whirlwind weekend in Turkey's largest city as they cross the River Bosphorus from Europe to Asia. The pair have an authentic Turkish shave at a local barbershop, and share an awkward moment at a local bath and massage parlour.

Why you should watch: It's always a joy to watch Adam Hills, and in this episode as a guest star we see him get out from behind the Last Leg desk. Plus him and Richard trying to haggle at the Grand Bazaar market is pretty funny.
