Who gives a toss over jumper clash? AFL legend does

RICHMOND legend Kevin Bartlett has slammed AFL boss Gillon McLachlan for suggesting a coin-toss could decide if the Tigers or Adelaide had to wear a clash jumper should the two teams make this year's grand final.

Bartlett labelled the Crows a "Johnny-come-lately” side who should never have picked similar colours to a long-standing AFL/VFL club like Richmond when they entered the competition in 1991.

"When Collingwood's clash jumper is white with black vertical stripes and that ticks all boxes as opposed to black with white vertical stripes then obviously jumper clashes are a complete furphy,” Bartlett said on SEN radio.

"Gil talked about a coin toss to decide who would wear their traditional jumper in a grand final. Hang on, let's not forget Adelaide is a Johnny-come-lately to the competition.

"The Tigers have been playing in the AFL/VFL for 83 years before the Crows even played a game. If Adelaide wanted to design a colour scheme and a jumper design that clashes with long-standing clubs then that's their problem, not Richmond's.

"Clearly there is no jumper clash between the Crows and the Tigers but if the AFL is going to force their hand then they've got to tell the Crows they've got to pick a jumper that in their mind doesn't clash with the famous Richmond jumper yellow sash. It's as simple as that.”
