Proposal adds another highlight to whirlwind year for Wilson

THE golden boy of Coast surfing, Coolum prodigy Julian Wilson, has added another chapter to his 2015 - a year he will never forget.

Wilson, 26, proposed to his long-time partner, model Ashley Osborne, in Paris earlier this week in a perfectly planned, whirlwind trip.

It's fantastic news for the down-to-earth local, who loves getting home when he can from the hectic schedule of the World Surf League's Men's Championship Tour.

The proposal has delighted his mother, Coolum local Nola Wilson, who said she was stoked for her son and his partner.

"He didn't tell us about his plans, but we weren't shocked by it," she said.

"It was really nice - we're very excited for them."

Nola said her son had popped the question across the road from Notre-Dame in the city of love, before turning his focus to the next leg of the WSL and his bid to climb higher up the rankings.

"He's very happy and if anything's going to help his cause, that's (happiness) going to be a big factor," Nola said.

"We're hoping (for a Coast wedding), but I have no idea.

"He loves home but it depends on what they want and what Ashley wants."

The news capped off an incredible year for world No.5 Wilson, after his much-publicised heroics at South Africa's Jeffreys Bay in July when he paddled towards close mate Mick Fanning, who was fending off a great white shark.

The actions of both men have earned them joint nominations for The Don awards and other accolades.

"It's been an amazing year and there's still a lot more to come," Nola said.
