Wilson heading to favourite break

SUNSHINE Coast surfer Julian Wilson was expected to kick off his campaign at the ASP World Tour Hurley Pro this morning.

Wilson is coming off a high after racking up his equal best result of the World Tour season at the Quiksilver Pro in New York two weeks ago when he reached the quarter-finals.

He goes into the event in 12th spot on the World Rankings and 17th in the ASP World Championship race.

Wilson has found form in the past two months since winning the Quiksilver Pro six-star event in Portugal, finishing in the top 13 in five of his last six events.

Small, southerly waves are expected at Trestles, which Wilson lists as his favourite break, for the event.

"This week at Trestles you will see a continuation of the kind of surfing we witnessed last week in New York," ASP International head judge Rich Porta said.

"High-performance waves lead to high-performance surfing. Progression and innovation will once again play a major part. Having said that, power surfing in the critical section of the wave will continue to score high - and I will reiterate that power surfing does not necessarily refer to simply rail work."
