Wilson Pickers withdraw from Muster

THE Wilson Pickers, one of Australia’s most recognised and popular live bluegrass and country acts, have had to withdraw from their scheduled appearance at the 2011 Optus Gympie Music Muster due to serious health matters.

A regular inclusion at the Muster, the group will miss the 30th Birthday Celebrations in 2011 as they stand by their picker Danny Widdcombe as he battles leukemia and focuses on survival.

Fellow band member Andrew Morris released on behalf of The Wilson Pickers the following statement:

“Danny Widdcombe, our beloved Picker, is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia. The Wilson Pickers will therefore be on an indefinite hiatus starting immediately. This means unfortunately we have had to cancel our appearance at this year's Gympie Muster. We apologise to all out fans, however we trust that you understand the circumstances under which this decision has been made”.

The ARIA nominated group are true festival favourites and have held court with performances at Byron Bluesfest, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Apollo Bay Festival, Queenscliff, Woodford and Tamworth to name but a few. Their popularity has also allowed them to conduct a number of successful national headline tours.

Whilst their uplifting show will be missed at the 2011 Optus Gympie Music Muster, event organisers are wishing only the best for Danny and his fellow band members and expressed their desire to welcome them back to the Muster when they could.

Ms Vickii Cotter, CEO of The Gympie Music Muster said, “Our thoughts are with Danny and his family at this time and we wish him only the best with his treatment and recovery.  On behalf of the board, my colleagues, our volunteers and our Muster patrons attending this year we say a very big Get Well Soon Danny! The Wilson Picker’s presence will be missed in 2011.  We look forward to them taking to the Gympie stage when possible.”
