Woman allegedly starved 10-month-old baby for money

A 10-month-old baby girl found to be suffering malnutrition may have been intentionally starved in order to raise money, after police charged a 27-year-old with torture and fraud.

Police allege the child was not fed properly and will allege the woman set up an online fundraising page that was purportedly to help the baby recover.

Police say the baby girl was repeatedly brought to hospital, where doctors found the baby appeared to be suffering from malnutrition and police were contacted.

The State Crime Command's Child Trauma Taskforce investigated, alongside police in Brisbane's Morningside.

The woman will face Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with torture, grievous bodily harm and fraud.
