Woman to appear in court after attempted fraud

A 33-YEAR-OLD Mackay woman has been arrested by police after an alleged attempted fraud in the Mackay City Centre on February 25.

Mackay police were contacted by staff at the business after the female allegedly presented a laptop computer which she was seeking cash for.

Staff observed an engraving on the computer which prompted the contact with police.

Police spoke with staff and the female on arrival.

Officers also made enquiries about the origins of the engraving present on the laptop computer. She was arrested as a result and charged with attempted fraud.

She will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on March 17 to have the matter heard.

Police take this opportunity to reinforce the importance of engraving your valuable items - most offenders will not steal an item permanently marked with identifying data linked to the owner.

Police engraving also assists with the quick identification of an owner for a located stolen item (should you be unlucky) allowing for a prompt return to the lawful owner.
