Woman, 25, charged after serious New Year's glassing attack

A WOMAN, 25, will face serious charges in the Warwick Magistrates Court later this month after allegedly glassing a man at Leslie Dam.

The 26-year-old man was rushed to Warwick Hospital following the 1am attack in which he received 42 stitches to the left side of his face.

Darling Downs Detective Acting Inspector Paul Hart said Warwick police located the woman and have charged her with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Det. Act. Insp. Hart condemned the alleged actions of the woman in what he described as a shocking way to start the year.

"In the early hours of New Year's morning, police have been called to an incident where a group of people have been involved in a disturbance," he said.

"The information we've received indicated two male persons have been involved in a minor altercation and as a result, a female has interjected.

"As a result, one male person (26-year-old) has sustained significant facial injuries as a result of being glassed.

"She has been removed, but has rejoined the fracas and glassed one of the males involved."

Det. Act. Insp. Hart described the weapon as a "thick glass jar container with a handle on it".

"The male person has been struck from behind and it has caused that glass vessel to shatter," she said.

"The victim has received some significant injuries to the left side of his face.

"It has taken 42 stitches to treat those injuries and those injuries are consistent with grievous bodily harm."

It is believed the attacked cut the man deep enough to expose bone.

The early morning incident unfolded in front of witnesses camping and partying at the popular spot outside Warwick.

"It's a terrible way to bring in the New Year," Act. Det. Insp. Hart said.

The woman will face the Warwick Magistrates Court on January 21.
