Woman held up with prison-style shiv

A MAN wearing a blue surgical mask rushed into a takeaway shop and held a prison-style shiv to a woman's throat in a dramatic armed robbery on the Gold Coast last night.

JJ's on Golden Four Drive owner Tracey Schaeffer said she and a worker were just about to close the shop at 7.30 last night when the robber rushed into the store and demanded money.

"She walked in to ask me a question and he came up behind her and grabbed her ... (and held a weapon) to her throat and demanded money," she said.

"We just gave it to him.

"It was sharpened at the end. It wasn't a knife.

"He had a blue surgical mask on and a black hoodie so most of his face was covered."

Ms Schaeffer said she believed the man jumped into a nearby car after taking the contents of the till from her small Tugun eatery.

"He spoke really, really quiet. You could hardly hear him ... and just head down and quickly," she said.

"'Give me money, give me the money, I don't want to hurt anyone' (he said)."

Ms Schaeffer said she was shocked at how quickly the raid ended.

"It was just very short and sweet, very quick," she said.

"I think he was Asian - he had very black hair.

"He was about my height - about 160 to 170cm tall and about 70kg.

The business owner said the employee who was working alongside her on Monday night did not return to work today.

"I guess we're a sitting duck aren't we? We're in the middle of nowhere here," she said.

Ms Schaeffer said the woman was shaken up during the raid but was not injured by the man.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the alleged armed robbery.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink via 131 444.
