A WOMAN is fighting for life after being hit by a car and plunging 15m onto train tracks in Brisbane's inner west.

Police said the 19-year-old was struck by a car travelling along Swann Rd in Taringa around 7.30pm, flung over the fence and on to train tracks.

Paramedics were able to get to the woman via an access road.

It is understood the woman, from Redlynch in Cairns, was resuscitated on the scene before being rushed to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition.

The 20-year-old female driver was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital as a precaution.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or who may have dash cam footage of the area to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

EARLIER: A woman was thrown over the fence and onto the train tracks after being hit by a car in Taringa.

Emergency services were called to Swann Rd in Taringa around 7.45pm to reports of car and pedestrian crash.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services confirmed the woman has been removed from the tracks. It is understood she is alive.

Police have shut Swann Rd to all traffic.

Train services have resumed on the Ipswich line. A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said there are residual delays of up to 20 minutes on some lines.

EARLIER: A serious car crash has halted train services between Roma St and Corinda this evening.

A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said commuters heading south from Roma St to Corinda should seek alternate transport where possible due to the police incident.

It is unknown how long the train line will be shut.

Queensland Ambulance confirmed a crash has occurred but the further details are unknown at this stage.
