Woman may lose sight in one eye following assault

A MAN will face court and a woman remains in hospital with the possibility of losing sight in one eye, following a New Year's Day incident in Nambucca Heads.

Police have been told the pair were arguing at a unit on Woodbell St, during which the man allegedly assaulted the woman a number of times.

The woman, aged 41, was taken to Macksville District Hospital, before being transferred to Coffs Harbour District Hospital, suffering injuries to her eye, ear, stomach and neck.

She is due to undergo surgery; police have been told she may lose sight in one eye.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Local Area Command were notified of the incident and following inquiries, arrested a 32-year-old man at a unit on Woodbell St.

He was taken to Macksville Police Station, where he was charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm, attempt to choke, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail, to appear at Coffs Harbour Bail Court today.
