BATTERED and bruised, a woman who survived a horror truck rollover that killed her partner has returned to South Australia with her healthy newborn in tow.

Stefanie Teixeira, 32, was 39 weeks pregnant when the semi trailer driven by her fiance Kevin Porker, 40, jackknifed on a steep hill on Perdrisat Rd in Maude, near Geelong, Victoria at 2am on April 6.

She was rushed to hospital in Melbourne and gave birth 24 hours after the accident to Kayson, a healthy son.

Both mother and newborn have now returned to the family farm near Karoonda, in the Murray Mallee.

A cousin of Mr Porker said Ms Teixeira was "battered, bruised and emotional, which is to be expected" after the accident but that Kayson was born healthy despite the accident only days before.

The couple was hauling wine grapes from Robinvale when the truck crashed only kilometres from their destination, a rural winery, on a notorious stretch of road.

"We were following Google maps and turned on to a road that was very steep," Ms Teixeira told Seven News.

"It was a scary ride. It was like a nightmare where you can't get off of it, you can't stop."

Mr Porker was killed and his fiancee was forced to crawl from the wreckage and search for her partner's phone to call emergency services.

"I was trying to call out to him but there was just silence. I was OK, I was walking around, I just wanted to get help for him.

"I checked to see if there was a pulse but in that moment, you just want to go and get help.

"It was supposed to be the three of us coming back together, starting our life together as parents."
