A WOMAN in her 70s was taken to hospital after her vehicle rolled over on the Pacific Hwy south of Chinderah on Thursday morning.

About 6.40am, emergency services were called to the scene, on a southbound land about 500m south of the Chinderah tunnel.

Tweed District Rescue Squad volunteer Jamie Stoddart said when they arrived, the rescue crew found the female driver trapped in the car by confinement.

"The crew had to use hydraulic tools to free the female driver," Mr Stoddart said.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the woman was the only patient.
