Woolgoolga receives unwanted tag thanks to fuel prices

WOOLGOOLGA has many wonderful assets which delight locals and tourists alike but fuel prices isn't one of them. In fact, Woolgoolga can now lay claim to having the most expensive fuel in the state.

According to the NRMA's daily petrol prices list, motorists buying fuel in Woolgoolga are the hardest hit on the North Coast.

While Sydney motorists were enjoying a further drop in the price of unleaded petrol on Sunday and paying on average 113.2 cents per litre, motorists buying fuel in Woolgoolga were paying a wallet emptying 148.9 cents per litre.

It almost makes the average price of unleaded petrol in Coffs Harbour on Sunday of 143.3 cents per litre look reasonable.

Although NRMA deputy president Wendy Machin doesn't think it looks reasonable at all.

"North Coast motorists deserve better and have a right to feel incensed by the gap between local prices and Sydney prices," Ms Machin said.

The average price of unleaded fuel in Sydney on Sunday was 113.2. The lowest prices have been in more than five years.

The NRMA has called on petrol companies to pass on savings at the bowser that are currently being seen in Sydney.

"Considering the average price in Sydney, the average price shouldfall to under $1.20 per litre on the North Coast," she said.

"If almost 70% of Sydney's petrol stations are selling at under $1.16 per litre and making a profit, there's no reason why prices shouldn't be similar on the North Coast."
