GET back to work - it's good for you!
So says Australia's federal health and safety regulator Comcare.
The advice follows dialogue from health experts that suggest getting back to work quickly after sustaining an injury on the job speeds up recovery time.
CRS Australia employment services consultant Kelsey Hobson helps job seekers with "barriers" including disability, health issues or injury, re-enter the workforce.
She said being employed was important for maintaining both self-respect and esteem.
"It's important that they get back into a meaningful role," Ms Hobson said.
"We focus on that. It's not just about getting back into a job - it has to be something that they see as viable and suitable for them.
"It's really important to have the social standing as well - people are a little biased about unemployment."
Comcare CEO Paul O'Connor said long-term absence from work can have a negative impact on injured workers' health and wellbeing.
"The more time spent off work, the slower the recovery," he said. "We need to help workers negotiate with their employers to get them back to work as soon as possible."
Ms Hobson echoed the suggestion, saying it was optimum to reengage in a timely manner.
"The longer they are sitting out and having the feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and disengagement from the social contact being in a workforce inherently brings, the harder it is."

According to Australian Network on Disability statistics, 90% of employees with "barriers" recorded productivity rates equal or greater than other workers.
