Worker's compo claim on kicked down by karate video
A QUEENSLAND man seeking almost a million dollars' compensation will receive far less after being outed in a karate video on Facebook.
Paul Thomas Kennedy sought $950,000 in damages from Queensland Alumina Limited after a workplace accident in 2012, in which he was burned on the ankle and heel of his left foot by a caustic solution.
His claim of severe pain came into question when a video of him performing martial arts and using his left leg without issue for the duration of the clip, was viewed in court.
The judge said the video was at odds with Mr Kennedy's statement of severe and chronic pain from the wounds inflicted by the caustic solution.
The clip, taken on February 16, 2014, showed Mr Kennedy pivoting on his foot and using it to kick his opponent.
