World Cup coach in town

FANS will get their chance to rub shoulders with one of Australian football's coaching greats tomorrow night.

Rale Rasic, the 1974 Australian World Cup coach, will join coaching staff from the Brisbane Roar for a cocktail party at the Emerald Town Hall.

A wide range of prized football memorabilia is being offered for auction on the night, which will also coincide with the launch of Emerald Eagles bid in the Central Queensland competition.

Heading the event is Brisbane Roar's assistant goalkeeping coach John Garside who will run coaching clinics with juniors players during the school holidays.

Garside said this weekend's launch was part of a bigger picture to rediscover football in the region and develop pathways for promising players.

"We want to give people as much as we can, we don't want to just take," he said.

"Even if that's advice or coaching, so people walk away and think they want to do it again."

It's hoped the coaching clinics can become a regular fixture.

Cocktail tickets are $75 and are available from CQ News or at the door.
