World's best scared out of water by shark at Margaret River

SOME of the world's top surfers were scared out of the water during a pre-event surf at Margaret River in Western Australia yesterday.

Surfline reports that at exactly 5:58pm (West Oz time),WCT surfers Kanoa Igarashi, Jeremy Flores, Caio Ibelli, Alessa Quizon and Wiggolly Dantas, as well as QS warrior Leo Fioravanti, were the only ones occupying the lineup when the shark appeared 15-20 yards in front of them.

The WA leg of the tour - the Margaret River Drug Aware Pro - just started this morning with the first heat taking place at Main Beach.

This year's event will be held at three potential spots, Main Beach, The Box and North Point.

Yesterday a body boarder was injured at The Box which is a shallow right hand barrel that's notoriously dangerous.

Round one heat one of the men's event is live now with local boy Taj Burrow in the water.

Coolum's Julian Wilson is in the next heat which features two other Aussies - Tathra's Kai Otton and Adam Melling from Lennox Head.
