X Factor dumps Adil
ADIL Memon's X Factor dream has been cut short, but the Ipswich lifeguard is nonetheless eager to pursue a music career.
Adil, 18, was the first Top 12 contestant eliminated.
The announcement came on Tuesday's show, after audiences voted on Monday's live performances.
Adil was placed in the bottom two, along with Over 25s contestant Samantha Jade.
The ex-Ipswich Grammar School student sung a final song to try and save himself, but lost to Samantha.
Adil, his mentor Mel B, fellow contestants and the live studio audience were visibly shocked.
The QT spoke to Adil yesterday, after he appeared on numerous morning television shows.
"I was pretty devastated, I didn't expect it at all," Adil said.
"I thought I'd performed well and had a couple of weeks left. I'd just got started and it's already over."
Adil was criticised by the show's judges after his rendition of Tracy Chapman's Fast Car on Monday, but he said he was proud of the performance.
"I thought the guitar might've given me an advantage, and Mel certainly thought so too," Adil said.
"I was the only one who played an instrument. I just enjoyed myself, it was a magical experience."
Judges Guy Sebastian and Ronan Keating said they believed the song didn't suit Adil, and that it looked like he was having trouble keeping up.
However, Adil said he believe Mel B had made the right choice.
"I put my whole trust in her like I always do," he said.
Adil said he had made close friends on the show, including Bella Ferraro and Josh Brookes.
The X Factor notwithstanding, Adil's star is on the rise; the teen has more than 19,000 Twitter follows.
