Yes Siri is a real person, or should we say a real Aussie

KAREN Jacobsen may not be a household name in this country, but most in Ipswich would have already heard her voice.

In fact her calming tones, as the voice of Siri, are heard around the world on 400 million GPS units and mobile devices.

The former Mackay girl packed up and went to the US 15 years ago to try to make it as a professional singer.

She did crack the big time, but only because she did a recalculation of her journey along the way.

The GPS girl, as she is sometimes referred, was in Ipswich yesterday for a business breakfast and enlightened a packed room with her life story.

Incorporating her GPS language she spoke about travelling down the highway of life and how she often had to sit back and recalculate where she was headed.

"We all need to embrace our true direction," she said.

"Ipswich itself epitomises this as it recalculates its future and accepts that it needs to change direction."

On a lighter side, Ms Jacobsen spoke about her seven-year-old son battling with her mobile phone one day telling it to stop calling him Karen every time he asked it a question.

"I am Hayden, son of Karen, he repeated over and over again.

"Eventually my phone accepted his demand and then started answering my questions with 'hi Hayden, son of Karen'," she laughed.

Ms Jacobsen has just released a Christmas album and sang a few of her new songs for the breakfast audience. She will be performing them again at the Melbourne Christmas Carols on Channel Nine.
