SHE didn't take out the top spot on this year's The One on Channel 7, but being the 2011 Psychic of the Year Queensland is enough to prove Julie McKenzie certainly has the goods.

Based in Goondiwindi, the mother of two is a psychic medium and clairvoyant and is in Emerald tonight for one show only.

While the challenges on The One were "very different" to what Julie normally does, she said she loved being part of the show.

"The one thing I really loved about the show was that they played me as the country psychic," she said.

"I grew up in Mooney with no electricity or anything, so I lived a very different lifestyle to some others."

Julie said her career as a psychic was more of a passion than a job, and while she has only been doing it professionally for the past seven years, she has had the gift since she was young.

"It is something that has always been with me... one of my earliest experiences with an angel was four years of age. Mum and I were driving to collect my sister from school. It was drizzling rain when a vehicle failed to give way and collided with our car," she said.

"I held mum's hand while we waited to be treated. I saw a beautiful male angel standing beside her."

While Julie didn't choose to be a psychic, she said she wouldn't change it for the world.

"At the end of the day, we help people contact the other side, and we have their lives in our hands. I am very respectful of that," she said.

"I love what I do because I get to use all of my senses. It's really rewarding."

Julie has never been to Emerald before, but said she already feels "a real connection with the place".

And as for sceptics, Julie said they were more than welcome to come along to her show.

"I love them and think they play an important part of balance in our industry," she said.

"I have a lot of people who come in, particularly men, who are sceptics. It's important that people have their opinions and it creates balance."

Julie's Emerald show is tonight at 7pm at the Pritchard Road Country Resort. Tickets are $44 each and can be purchased at or by calling 0418 765 634.
